Jerry W. Else, son of Virgil and Margaret (Bailey) Else was born May 29, 1930 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1948 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He married Lynn Lytle on January 16, 1954 and had five children.
Jerry served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and served over seas in Korea. After his service, Jerry worked at Western Electric for over 30 years where he installed equipment in microwave towers and telephone offices until his retirement in 1985.
Jerry was a member of the Mahaska County Sheriffs Posse for several years. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, airplanes and spending time with family and friends. Jerry was a member of the American Legion, the Elks, the VFW and the EEA.
Jerry’s family includes his wife of 60 years, Lynn Else of Oskaloosa; his children: John Else of Oskaloosa, Brett (Diane) Else of Oskaloosa, Sue Else of Savannah, GA and Todd Else of Oskaloosa; his grandchildren: Jeri and Carrie Silvers, Troy Else, Hunter and Andrew Else; his great-grandchildren: Austin Perlingiero and Syndee Silvers; and a sister-in-law, Jackie Else of Toledo, Iowa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindi Else; a brother, Jack Else; a sister, Jane Osmundson; and brother-in-law, Orville Osmundson.
As was his wish his body has been cremated and private family graveside Memorial Services will be held at Madison Township Cemetery at a later date. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral chapel is in charge of arrangements.
