Mason DenHartog, 24, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at his home. He was born December 12, 1989, in Oskaloosa, the son of Roger Lee and LaDonna Davis DenHartog.

He graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2008. Mason started working at Mahaska Drug in Oskaloosa at the age of 14. He also worked for SnoBiz during the summer, where he had been the manager for the past 4 years. This summer he moved to Des Moines, fulfilling a lifelong dream of living in a big city. He was planning to move back to Oskaloosa to rejoin the Mahaska Drug Family. He had planned on pursuing a degree in business management next fall.

Mason had a soft spot in his heart for animals, he wanted to rescue all in need. In high school he was involved in theatre, and he enjoyed hanging out with his friends. He also liked to take his truck mudding.

He is survived by his parents, Roger and LaDonna DenHartog of Oskaloosa; his grandparents, Melvin and Betty DenHartog of Oskaloosa; his brother, Kyle DenHartog and family, Anna McPeters and Charley Carr; his sister and brother in law, Tisha and Johnny Scovel; a nephew, Darin; a niece, Kaitlyn Scovel.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances Davis.

Mason was taken way too soon and will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 29, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday morning after 11 a.m. The family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Thursday evening to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
