Terry Allen Sheets, 68, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born November 26, 1945, at Ottumwa, Iowa the son of John Donald and Cleora “Sue” Humble Sheets.
Early on he worked on the family farm and helped care for his siblings. On January 30, 1967, he was united in marriage to Beatrice VerSchuure. To this union two children, Chris and Jodee were born. Terry and Beatrice later divorced. He was later married to Jan VanGorp. To this union Jessica was born. They later divorced. He has spent the last 28 years with his companion Darlene Hoyt.
Terry worked for over 30 years at Pella Corporation in Pella. Following his retirement he enjoyed helping out at Van Gorp Auto Recyclers and Man Hole Adjustable Risers in Oskaloosa.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his family, camping, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed the many hours he and his brother Ronnie spent tinkering in the garage. Terry also enjoyed collecting and working on antique Allis Chambers Farm equipment. He loved caring for the neighborhood animals. He had a special place in his heart for his dog Kaebrey the “pretty girl”.
His family includes his companion of over 28 years, Darlene Hoyt of Oskaloosa; three children and their spouses: Chris (& Jennifer) Sheets of Oskaloosa, Jodee (& Scott) Netten of Oskaloosa and Jessica (& Kevin) Kilcoin of Des Moines; six grandchildren: Blake Netten, Aubrey Netten, Levi Hunt, Logan Sheets, Hunter Sheets, and Kaeman Netten; brothers and sisters: Ronnie (& Barb) Sheets of Beacon, Jimmy (& Nancy) Sheets of Bloomfield, Shirley (& Mike) Courtney of Agency, Sharon Orman of Calamus, Iowa, David (& Debbie) Sheets of Rock Island, Illinois, Martha Ohlinger of Ottumwa, Carol Sheets of Ottumwa and Mike Sheets of Agency; his step father, David Pearson of Agency; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother in law, Pat Orman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014, at 10 a.m. in the Federated Fellowship Church in Pella (309 Roosevelt Road, Pella) with Reverend Bryan Latchaw officiating.
Burial will be in the Henness Cemetery southwest of Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Friday morning after 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
