Bank Iowa in Oskaloosa celebrated their Blue Zone Worksite designation on Wednesday.

Oskaloosa, Iowa — August 27, 2014 — Blue Zones Project® Oskaloosa today announced another Blue Zones Worksite® designation. Bank Iowa® was designated after completing the necessary items in the Blue Zones Worksite pledge, such as lunchtime walking groups, providing employees an outside eating area, having a high number of employees who volunteer in the community, and replacing candy for customers with small bags of nuts and bottled water.

Bank Iowa celebrated the success of this achievement with a healthy breakfast the morning of Wednesday, August 27, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“Bank Iowa wants to be a healthy, happy work environment. By implementing Blue Zones Project lifestyle changes we can reach that goal, and have Bank Iowa be a successful worksite, one that benefits employees and our customers,” said Sally McCann, regional retail supervisor of Bank Iowa. “Helping our employees find their purpose helps not only the employee, but helps the bank prosper and grow. People with a purpose are more productive and successful. That is Bank Iowa’s hope for all our employees.”

“The Blue Zones Project team has greatly enjoyed working with Bank Iowa during their designation process,” said Natalie Spray, Blue Zones Project community program manager. “Not only is there an amazing number of employees that have taken the Well-Being Assessment and/or Health Risk Assessment, but those employees are also celebrated during Bank Iowa’s Monday morning meetings. It really speaks measures to the impact this employer has chosen to make on their employees, and we could not be happier to work with a worksite that is providing such a strong example for other organizations in our community.”

Brought to Iowa through an innovative sponsorship by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in collaboration with Healthways and Blue Zones®, Blue Zones Project is a community-by-community well-being improvement initiative designed to make healthy choices easier through permanent changes to environment, policy, and social networks.
