Jack Welch, 87, Oskaloosa died Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. He was born Friday, September 17, 1926 in Oskaloosa, the son of Eugene and Mae Lillian DeWitt Welch.

Following school, Jack served in WWII in the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1946 he went to work for the M. & St. L. Railroad until 1955. Jack then went to work for Maytag in Newton for 32 years, retiring in 1985.

On February 27, 1987, Jack was united in marriage to Beulah I. Green in Oskaloosa and she died on April 10, 2012.

In 2012, Jack received a Presidential Coin in appreciation of his service in the military from President Barrack Obama during his visit to Oskaloosa.

In retirement Jack enjoyed fishing, hunting and antiquing. Jack was a member of the Oskaloosa V.F.W., American Legion and the Eagles.

Jack is survived by his son: Mark (& Deb) Welch of Pleasantville; two daughters: Jill Gascon (& fiancé Steve England) of Norwalk; and Shelly (& Mac) Vasquez of Denver, Colorado; 5 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; two stepdaughters: Peggy Hewitt and Nancy (& Steve) Vance both of Ankeny; and 6 step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a granddaughter, Brandy Taylor; and two great granddaughters: Nikkole Taylor and Kaitlyn Heyden.

As was his wish, Jack’s body has been cremated.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 15, 2014 at 1 P.M. in the Old White Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Jane Larson officiating.
A procession will form at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa at 12:45 P.M. on Friday for those wishing to go to the cemetery.
Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Memorials may be made to the Senior Citizen’s Center or to Meals on Wheels.
