Oskaloosa–A program that believes it is on the precipice of getting to the top of the harrier world, the Statesmen men’s cross country team is projected to finish third in the Midwest Collegiate Conference as the preseason coaches’ poll was released today.

William Penn, which finished fifth out of six teams in 2013, earned 20 points and one first-place vote to take third place. The navy and gold recently finished as high as third in 2012.

Grand View (19), Viterbo (17), and Clarke (6) wrap up the standings.

WPU starts the campaign in Indianola on August 29 at the Simpson Bill Buxton Invitational. The six programs will fight for the MCC crown on November 8 in La Crosse, Wis.
