Fan Appreciation Night at the Southern Iowa Speedway – June 12, 2013

Oskaloosa, Iowa (July 15th, 2014) – Tuesday Night was the first of two nights of IMCA’s Weekly Racing Series racing during the 2014 Southern Iowa Fair. The headliner on the night sponsored by KBOE Radio and Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling was the XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds which saw 32 check in from several states. Also on the card was IMCA Late Models, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

First feature of the night was the “Class to Tough To Tame” the Budweiser IMCA Stock Cars 18 lap event. Cayden Carter redrew the outside front row and he took full advantage jumping out to the race lead. Behind Carter is where it was heating up and it included Todd Reitzler, Damon Murty, Brad Pinkerton and Justin Temeyer. Pinkerton and Murty were battling for the second spot on lap six and made contact sending Pinkerton into the wall in turn one, Kris Walker tried to avoid but got into the fence in turn one. Carter lead the remaining 12 lap to take his fourth win in the Stock Cars. Scott Drake driving Perry Misner’s car worked his way to the runner up spot on lap 12 and settled for second. Temeyer finished third, Murty was fourth and Reitzler was fifth.

Pepsi Cola Mahaska Bottling Company IMCA Hobby Stocks 15 lap feature was out next on to the speedway. Dustin Griffiths grabbed the lead from his outside front row starting spot but never able to pull away as Randy Embrey and Mike Hughes stay close. When the only race caution came out for Gina Greubel getting into a tractor tire in the bottom of turn four. Griffiths lost the lead to Embrey on lap eight and Hughes took second away. Embrey and Hughes battled it out for the lead and Hughes grabbed the lead on lap 10. Hughes went on to take his eighth win at Osky and his fourth consecutive win. Embrey, Griffiths, Derek Hodges and Thrasher rounded out the top five.

In the KBOE Radio IMCA SportMods 16 lap feature, it was Brett Lowry leading the opening lap. Lowry and Brayton Carter battled it out with Carter edging out Lowry on lap two. Carter lead until lap six when Lowry grabbed the lead back on lap six. Shortly after the caution came out for Daniel Gottschalk in turn four. Lowry held on to take his third win meanwhile Curtis VanDerWal worked his way up to finish second. Clint Luellen started third and finish third, Carter fell back to fourth and Ryan Fullenkamp finished fifth.

XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds 25 lap feature went green-to-checkered. Todd Shute and Luke Wanninger started on the front row and it was “Toddzilla” grabbing the lead. Shute continued to lead meanwhile behind him Andrew Schroeder and Mike Van Genderen battled it out. Schroeder finally settled in to the second spot on lap 11 and set his sights on Shute. Shute encountered lap traffic on lap 18 and that allow Schroeder to reel him down. Schroeder made the move and took the lead away from Shute on lap 22. Schroeder took the win over Shute, Van Genderen, Wanninger and Jacob Murray.

Final Feature of the night was 20 lap IMCA Late Models event. Only nine Late Models signed into do battle on night one at the Southern Iowa Fair. Nick Marolf lead the first 14 laps in the feature before Todd Cooney worked his way up to take the lead away on lap 15. Only race caution came out on lap 16 for Spencer Diercks experiencing mechanical issues. Cooney held off several challenges to take the feature win on his birthday. Marolf, Tommy Elston, Kevin Kile and Colby Springsteen.

No time to rest because the Southern Iowa Speedway will be right back in action on Wednesday Night during the Southern Iowa Fair. Night again will be sponsored by KBOE Radio and Pepsi Cola Mahsaka Bottling. The Inaugural Class of the Southern Iowa Speedway Hall of Fame that includes Bobby Greiner Jr, Aaron Brown, Randy Schroeder, Bill Davis Sr and Dennis Banks meanwhile The IMCA Modifieds will run for a top prize of $1,000. Also Racing is the IMCA Late Models, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA SportMods, IMCA Hobby Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts. Hot Laps at 7pm and Racing at 7:30pm.
