Oskaloosa–Three William Penn athletic teams were excellent in the classroom in 2013-2014 and their efforts helped them to become NAIA Scholar Teams.

A total of 1,290 programs received the laurel, highlighted by the Ashford men’s golf team being named Scholar Team of the Year after posting a combined 3.86 Grade Point Average.

The Statesmen women’s golf team, headed by Nik Rule, topped WPU’s trio with a 3.37 GPA. The softball team, skippered by Mike Christner, had a 3.16 GPA, while the men’s basketball team, led by John Henry, also hit the mark with a 3.13 GPA.

For a team to earn NAIA Scholar Team award, it must have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as defined by the institution. The team GPA includes all eligible varsity student-athletes.
