Osky Boys Start Playoff Run With Victory.

Oskaloosa Indians

Oskaloosa Indians

The Osky boys baseball team was looking for a fresh start, as the last couple weeks of the regular season were a disappointment. They kept coming up on the short end of the contest during those games, but they were hoping that the state tournament would wake them up. It did just that. The Indians rode the strong right arm of senior Jesse Van Dalen and came away with a 4-0 victory in the first round over Mount Pleasant.

Van Dalen was in complete control as he mowed the Panthers down through the first couple innings by striking out batters left and right. Offensively, Osky jumped on the Panthers early as ‘Mr. Everything’, senior Nick Rutledge, led off with a double and would score. That was all that Van Dalen would need, as he allowed just one hit over 6 innings, while walking 2 and striking out 9 Panthers, for the win.

Osky was led by junior Colton Swanson, going 2-3 with a double; senior Rutledge was 1-2 with a double, a stolen base and 2 runs scored; junior Mitchell Schaffner was 1-2 with a double and 2 RBI; and senior Travis Gile was 1-2 . Freshman Seth Sarver scored another run for the Indians as a pinch runner.

Coach Gingrich was very pleased with the overall performance as “once again it was our pitching that is our bread and butter and Jesse pitched very well tonight”.

Oskaloosa will travel to Fairfield to take on the Trojans Monday night a 7:00. Osky is now 17-17 on the season.
