GRINNELL’S MACK, TINKHAM NAMED TO ABCA/RAWLINGS ALL-REGION TEAMS

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College’s Anthony Mack ’16 and Sam Tinkham ’16 have been named to the 2014 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Central Region Team.

Mack was a first-team selection, while Tinkham was named to the third team.

Mack, a center fielder from Libertyville, Ill. (Libertyville), was recently named the Midwest Conference South Division Player of the Year.

He hit .423 this season with 29 RBI, four homers, 10 doubles and two triples. Mack had a .613 slugging percentage and was successful on 15 of 17 stolen base attempts while scoring 36 runs.

He was also named National Hitter of the Week once by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Tinkham, from Newington, Conn. (Newington), is the 2014 MWC South Division Pitcher of the Year. He was 6-1 on the season with a 2.03 ERA.

Tinkham struck out 62 batters in 62 innings and had an opponent batting average of .221. He also tied a Grinnell school record with 16 strikeouts in a game.

Michael Polcyn of Ripon College was named the Central Region Player of the Year, while Buena Vista University’s Jon Ringblom was tabbed Pitcher of the Year. Buena Vista’s Steve Eddie was named Coach of the Year.
