Edna Ruth Hutton, 94, a resident of Bethany Home in Dubuque, Iowa and formerly of Martinsburg, Iowa, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014.

Edna was born August 17, 1919, in Hayesville, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Catherine (Keasling) VanOrsdall. Edna was raised by Maggie Conger from the time she was seven years old. Edna was grateful for everything Maggie did for her.

She was united in marriage to Ralph Verland Hutton in 1936 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He passed away in 1976. Edna lived in Martinsburg, and Vinton, and has lived in Dubuque since 1994 in order to be closer to her daughter.

Edna was a telephone operator in Martinsburg, owned and operated Hutton’s Cafe in Hedrick, Iowa and was a scale operator for BL Anderson.

She is a member of the Hedrick/Martinsburg United Methodist Church and past Eagles Club member in Vinton.

Edna is survived by a son: Cloyce (Linda) Hutton of Linby, Iowa; a daughter: Margaret “Marge” (Dick) Coble of Dubuque, Iowa; five grandchildren: Russell (Diane) Coble, Sherri (Larry) Tschamer, Rick Coble, Jeff Hutton and Tracy Hutton; six great-grandchildren: Jimmy, Austin, Christopher, and Triston Coble, Nicole Tschamer and Kara (Russell) Simon; and a sister: Vada Byrum.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; Howard and Catherine VanOrsdall; her husband, Ralph; two brothers: Grant and Leslie VanOrsdall; three sisters: Lucille and Fern VanOrsdall, and Wanda Conger.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon Sunday, May 4, at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present from 1:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 5, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. in the Hedrick/Martinsburg United Methodist Church in Hedrick, Iowa, with Pastor Carl Benge and Reverend Bill Hornback officiating.
Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Martinsburg.
