Over 400 young gymnasts and their families will be visiting Oskaloosa this weekend for the Xcel State Meet. The Competition will take place at Oskaloosa Elementary School. Sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27. Admission for families, friends, and gymnastics fans will be $8 for adults, $5 for children. Admission is free for children under 5.
Xcel State Meet is hosted by Transform Academy. Gymnasts representing Transform Academy will be competing at the meet.
The Xcel program is divided into 5 levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. Within each level, gymnasts are given routines that best fit their skill set. The competitive season began in January and Transform Academy gymnasts traveled to Des Moines, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids to show off their hard work and enthusiasm for the sport.
Transform Academy’s Xcel Team includes 22 girls in first through ninth grade. Athletes practice twice a week and are coached by William Penn University Students Jaden Miskowiec and Melanie Mackey.
Gymnasts practice throughout the fall and spring, and often through the summer months to progress their skills for the opportunity to compete at the State Competition. Come cheer them on this Satuday, April 26, and Sunday, April 27 at the Oskaloosa Elementary School.
