Mahaska Health Partnership recently held a fund-raiser to purchase automated external defibrillator (AED) machines and donate them to the Lacey recreation complex. The fundraiser was held in February in recognition of National Heart Health Month. “Our goal was to raise enough money for one AED, but the response was so overwhelming from our physicians, medical professionals and staff, we were able to purchase two,” stated MHP Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurse Renee Edgar. “While this was an employee fundraiser, people in the community heard about it and wanted to contribute.” she explained. Renee and MHP education coordinator nurse Tonya Dyson came to the complex to demonstrate to MCRF staff and Little League board members how to use the AED machines to save a life. “Safety is a priority for MCRF and the community members that use Lacey Complex,” stated Sherry Vavra, Executive Director of MCRF, “and MHP has been a wonderful partner to help us keep the players and spectators safe.” The AED machines will be available for any event and located at both the 5 plex and the new stadium.
