Kim Kiefer, 51, of New Sharon, died on Saturday, April 12, 2014. She was born July 28, 1962, in Los Angeles, California.

Kim moved to Oskaloosa in 1990. In 2000, Kim and her family moved into the home of Elmer and Carolyn Veldhuizen. Elmer and Carolyn became anchors in Kim’s life, she thought of them as her adoptive parents. She moved to New Sharon in 2001.

Kim had worked at Cargill Meat Solutions in Ottumwa.

Kim loved spending time with her family. She truly enjoyed attending events where her children were participating. She also enjoyed doing crafts, being outdoors, going to the lake, and being around her dogs. She was a very good cook.

Her family includes her four children, Melissa Holsinger of Des Moines, Nikki Kiefer of Oskaloosa, Dalton Thomas of What Cheer, and Dakota Thomas of What Cheer; two grandchildren, Hailey Lampman and Kaleb Webb; two sisters, Karen (Paul) Bunkers and Jennifer Spicer all of South Dakota; a brother, Michael (Maggie) Mockbee of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews; and close family friends, Elmer and Carolyn Veldhuizen.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 6 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Case Van Kempen officiating.
As was Kim’s wish her body will be cremated following the funeral ceremony.
Visitation will begin Wednesday morning after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 4 p.m. until service time at 6.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
