24-man Roster in Place for 2014 Season Start

DES MOINES, IA – Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Mike Hohensee announced the club’s 24 man roster for the 2014 season. Of the 24 players, 12 will be returning from last year’s squad. The Barnstormers kick-off the regular season Saturday, March 15, when they travel west to take on the Spokane Shock.

Although several players are returning, the 2014 roster has a much different feel than season’s past. New additions include veteran quarterback Carson Coffman, who spent last year with the now defunct Chicago Rush and kicker Jose Martinez who brings AFL experience from stints with the Milwaukee Mustangs and the Chicago Rush.

When asked about the team, Hohensee responded, “This year’s camp was the most competitive and focused camp we’ve experienced in Iowa since I’ve been the Head Coach. The veterans were spot-on with their attention to detail and constant examples of acting like a pro both on and off the field.” Hohensee went on to say, “We as a staff are excited to get started putting the game plan together for this group to face Spokane, and by the way the last padded practice went, the players are chomping at the bit to put it on someone else.”

Coming out of training camp, the 2014 Barnstormers captains are linebacker Matangi Tonga, wide receiver Darius Reynolds, defensive back De’Mon Glanton, and quarterback Carson Coffman. These players were chosen as captains for their willingness to not only lead by example, but their tireless efforts to create a winning environment amongst the players.

“Barnstormers Fans will enjoy cheering this group of young men on for the next twenty-three weeks!” Hohensee added.
