E.B.F.H.S. Jazz Band Places 1st at Indian Hills
Gage DeLaCruz wins Outstanding Soloist of the Day!
On Saturday, February 22nd, the Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont Jazz Band placed 1st in class 2A at the Indian Hills Jazz Festival in Ottumwa. Several members of the band earned Outstanding Soloist Awards for their solo performances: Courtney Durst; vibes, Emma Haselhuhn; tenor sax, Riley Arnold; Alto Sax, Nathan McGinnis; drums, Jackson Voyles; bass, Jessica Jones; flute & piano, and Gage DeLaCruz; trumpet.
Gage DeLaCruz was chosen as the Outstanding Soloist of the Day in class 2A competition for his outstanding performance on the trumpet. The bands’ next competition will be Saturday March 8th at the District Jazz Contest at Iowa City West High School. Bands that place 1st or 2nd at the district contest will qualify to compete at the Iowa Jazz Championships in April. The band will perform in concert with the junior high jazz band on Thursday March 20th at the EBFHS Cafetorium.
