Oskaloosa–The William Penn women’s bowling team will need to be at its best next month when it goes to the Lonestar State for the XBowling Intercollegiate Team Sectionals.

The Statesmen, ranked #26 on the collegebowling.com website, will travel to Fort Worth, Texas for the 14-team tournament that runs from March 15-16 at Cityview Lanes. The tournament is a Baker format consisting of 64 total games–32 each day.

It is WPU’s third sectionals trip in its five-year existence on the lanes.

The other sectionals will be held at Allentown, Pa., Addison, Ill., and Smyrna, Tenn. Top-ranked Wichita State (Kan.) will top the Fort Worth tourney.

#2 Webber International (Fla.) is heading to Allentown, while #3 Robert Morris (Ill.) stays close to home as the best squad at Addison. #4 Lindenwood (Mo.) is the lead team going to Smyrna.

Behind Wichita State, #7 Midland (Neb.), #11 Newman (Kan.), #16 Victory (Tenn.), #19 Marian (Ind.), and #25 Emmanuel (Ga.), William Penn will be the seventh-highest squad at Cityview Lanes.

The remainder of the Fort Worth field includes: #32 Stephen F. Austin (Texas), #33 West Texas A&M, #39 Fresno State (Calif.), #47 Robert Morris-Springfield (Ill.), #57 Bethel (Tenn.), #63 Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.), and #64 Highland CC (Kan.).

The Statesmen will be paced by Kirstin Newberry (Sr., Holland, Mich., Secondary Education), who is currently ranked #146 in the nation with a 184.5 average.

Sectional assignments are based on Team Ranking System points. Fields are determined by taking geographic distance, economics, and field size into consideration. To sort teams evenly throughout each sectional, the USBC attempts to place no more than two of the top eight schools and no more than four of the top 16 schools in a sectional based on final TRS totals.

The top four teams from each of the four sectionals advance to the XBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held April 16-18 at Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nev.

In addition, the four sites will also host the XBowling Intercollegiate Singles Sectionals on March 14 with individuals bowling six games.

The top 24 men and the top 16 women–top four from each sectional plus eight additional men based on size of field at each location–advance to the national singles championship on April 14 and 18 in Reno.
