Local Area Wrestlers Well Represented at State Tournament
by Matt Saville
Local wrestlers will be taking to the mats in Des Moines starting Wednesday for two local teams in the State Duals and then the traditional State Tournament start Thursday. Coming from a family that is heavy into wrestling, this is one of my favorite times of year. The atmosphere is almost unmatched to any other high school sports setting in America. This week is what little kids dream of when they start out at a young age. Iowa without a doubt is THE KING OF WRESTLING.
Two local teams will kick things off Wednesday of this week as Albia in class 2A and Eddyville in class 1A will try and win the Team State Duals. For both of these teams bringing home a championship is within reach, as both rosters are full of ranked wrestlers and should be able to make strong runs for the title.
Thursday brings the first day of the State Wrestling Tournament and the local area is well represented with a ton of individuals who could walk away with the gold around their neck Saturday night. Listed below are the area wrestlers, the schools and the records of the wrestlers.
