This is the time of year that a wrestler looks forward to the most…the District and State spots that are up for grabs. Four Osky wrestlers took advantage of the opportunity and will now be wrestling in Des Moines this next week, in hopes of chasing that coveted State Title !!!

Coming off of a tough month so far, as far as injuries and illnesses, Osky was looking to bounce back and have a good showing at Districts this last Saturday in Newton, with only the top two wrestlers advancing onto state. What Osky received from the boys was great effort and kids that fought hard the entire day in helping the team finish 3rd in a very tough 3A District. They only finished behind Cedar Rapids Prairie and Iowa City West, who are two of Iowa’s top tradition-rich programs.

Osky was led by Senior Mason Wisse (35-2), who pinned his way to the district championship in spending just over 8 minutes combined in his three matches. Senior Drea Lamb (15-4) came back through wrestle backs to finish 2nd, Junior Skylar DeJong (32-8) and Freshman Drew Sams (38-5) also fought and clawed their way back into 2nd place finishes to help pace the Indians on Saturday.

Osky didn’t stop there as they had many other place winners, which included: 4th place finishes by Tyler Zickefoose and Callen Tomlin; 5th place finishes by Josh Diehl, Jason Beebe and Zane McKay; and a 3rd place finish by Cody Jones. With the Indians having a ton of underclassmen, the future bodes well for the Osky wrestlers.

The Osky Indians that will continue on their season starting Thursday will be: Wisse, Lamb, DeJong and Sams. Osky News would like to congratulate the boys and wish them the best of luck in getting on the podium at the Iowa State Tournament.
