Starting lineups are announced Friday versus Norwalk

Friday night was a prime opportunity for the Osky boys to try and pull an upset. The Osky crowd was fired up from the Osky girls just pulling the upset in the previous game and it was senior night for 4 Osky boys, so it had the makings for the possibility of a win. That’s where it ended, as Osky came out flat and found themselves in a hole thaIslas been all too familiar this season. Norwalk had their way with the Indians, as they beat the Indians 78-51.

The first quarter found Osky struggling to have an answer for the Warriors offense as Norwalk would work the ball inside to the post players for Norwalk, which allowed things to open up from the outside. The Warriors hit some outside shots, to jump out to the early 18-7 lead after one quarter. One glaring fact is that teams are still putting ball pressure on the Indians, but they are also making life rough on Osky’s leading scorer Ryan Reiter. They are allowing anyone one other the Reiter to have looks at the basket and the ball just was not falling throughout the game for the Indians.

Osky came out of the half trailing by 20 with the score 35-15 in favor of the guests from Norwalk. Senior Nick Watters came off the bench and drained a couple of long back-to-back 3’s, coupled with Junior Ki-Jana DeJong playing hard and draining a 3.

During the second half, Osky was trying to compete and find a moral victory of knowing they could play with the Warriors. Osky did manage to find more success in the second half on the offensive side, but the lack of being able to get stops led to Norwalk gaining the victory 78-51.

Coach Tremmel said that the boys responded well to the talk, at the half, about just coming out and competing and going hard. You can’t come out flat and expect for good teams like Norwalk to not take advantage of that. That is why you find yourselves down by 20, and that is a big hole to come back from against teams like the Warriors.

Osky falls to 1-18 on the season with games this Monday against Grinnell @ Grinnell as a makeup, then Tuesday night at home against Chariton, to end the regular season.

Osky was led by Ki-Jana DeJong with 10 pts., 1 reb., 2 steals and 1 block; Ryder Curtis and Spencer Medlin with 7 pts. apiece; and Watters with 6 pts. Osky was led in rebounding by Wade Votroubek with 4 .
