Schwab’s Big Night Leads to MCC Laurel
Oskaloosa–Alec Schwab (Jr., Peru, Ill., Business Management) put on quite a show last Saturday and was rewarded for that effort by being named Midwest Collegiate Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week Monday.
Schwab garnered his first weekly honor after scoring 43 points in William Penn’s 100-81 league win over Clarke.
The junior, who started the week with a forgettable five points versus #23 Ashford, was amazing from the opening tip last Saturday, hitting six of his first eight three-pointers en route to 25 first-half points. He finished the day 13-for-28 from the field (9-for-20 3-PT) and 8-for-9 at the line. The 43 points were the fourth-most in program history and his nine trifectas came up one shy on the all-time perimeter list.
Schwab shot 40.5% for the week (40.0% 3-PT) and upped his scoring average from 12.1 points to 13.5 in that one contest. For the year, the guard is also averaging 4.3 rebounds in addition to 29 assists, 20 steals, and three blocks. He is shooting 41.5% from the floor (35.8% 3-PT) and 80.0% at the charity stripe.
Since returning from a short two-game injury, Schwab is averaging 19.7 points, highlighted by two more 28-point efforts.
It is the team’s fourth award of the year.
