Lewis Breaks School Record Again at Doane Meet

Crete, Neb.–The Statesmen indoor track and field teams were pushed by an extremely tough field at the Fred Beile Classic hosted by Doane Saturday.

William Penn set 11 season bests, including six on the women’s side and five by the men. Deja Lewis (Fr., Spring, Texas, Undecided) headlined the efforts by breaking the program’s 3,000-meter run. The freshman, who broke her own mark, was seventh with a time of 11:29.10.

The women’s 4×400-meter relay squad was also seventh in a time of 4:22.70, while Meaghan Foster (So., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) placed eighth in the weight throw at 51-11.25. Emmanuela Meneide (Sr., Turks and Caicos, Biology) was ninth in the 60-meter dash (8.16 seconds) and Raveen Rhone (Jr., Los Angeles, Calif., Biology) was tenth in the triple jump (33-9.5).

Sam Taylor (Jr., Eddyville, Iowa, Industrial Technology) was the top male competitor, claiming runner-up honors in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.50 seconds.

Kalob Gist (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 48-3.25, while Chris Gossett (Fr., Park Forest, Ill., Mechanical Engineering) had a ninth-place triple jump of 42-6.25. Joshua Rankin (Fr., University Park, Ill., Undecided) was right behind Gossett in tenth place at 41-2.5, while Yonas Desta finished tenth as well (3,000-meter run, 9:32.18).

Next: William Penn travels to Sterling, Ill. next Friday to compete for the league title at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships.
