Marten Visser,81 , of Oskaloosa died Monday, February 3, 2014 at his home in Oskaloosa.

Marten was born Saturday, August 13, 1932 in Jefferson Township in Mahaska County, the son of William and Cornelia Hol Visser.

Following school, He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Marten worked at Pella Corporation for most of his working life. Marten was a simple guy, he enjoyed listening to his nephews play music and telling stories.

Marten is survived by a daughter: Pam Visser of Oskaloosa; three sons: Marty Visser, Kenny Visser, and Mark Visser all of Oskaloosa; a sister: Mary (& Catt) of Washington; a brother: Richard Visser of Oskaloosa; 9 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Vickie Hayes; a granddaughter: Mary Beth Visser; 3 sisters: Geraldine Chambers, Addie Horn, and Ellen Mason; and 2 brothers: Case Visser and John Visser.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2014 at 3 P.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Pringle Cemetery near Bussey.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 1 P.M. with the family present at the Bates Funeral Chapel from 1 P.M. until service time at 3 P.M.
Memorials may be made to the Martin Visser Memorial Fund.
