Oskaloosa, Iowa – When in the midst of a long season the last thing a team can afford to do is to come out flat, but that is exactly what happened Monday night as Osky tried to get back into the win column against the Centerville Big Red.

Osky came out not being able to get anything to fall on the offensive side of the ball. Ryan Reiter had several good looks at the basket but just couldn’t get the lid to come off. In the meantime, Centerville established one thing, and that was that they were committed to dribble drive penetration and they were having success in that as they jumped out to a 8-0 lead. Osky finally got on the board when sophomore Wade Votroubek hit a reverse layup to break the ice. Osky played solid defense in the first quarter, but the offensive woes continued as the quarter ended 12-5 Centerville.

One bright spot for Osky on the night was Ryder Curtis, his strong defense and hustle were what Coach Tremmel would of liked to have seen out of his players in general. If we had had 4 or 5 Ryder’s tonight we would of competed better but we couldn’t defend the dribble drive and that cost us. Osky was getting contributions from Votroubek and Curtis, but they found themselves down 33-14 at the half.

It was like hitting the repeat button in the second half as Osky continued to struggle on the defensive side of the ball, and the majority of those points were coming inside the paint. Osky was led by Ryder Curtis with 12 pts., 3 rebs.; Wade Votroubek 9 pts., 5 rebs.; and Ryan Reiter with 6 pts. and 8 rebs.

Osky falls to 1-14 on the season. They were to travel to Grinnell tonight, but that game has been postponed. Osky plays Dallas Center Grimes at home this Friday night.
