Gabriel Finken, 63, of Oskaloosa died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, at her home in Oskaloosa.
Gabriel was born February 2, 1950, in Germany, the daughter of Ingaborg Schmid. She was raised by her mother Ingaborg and her step father Alexander Akiona.
On February 21, 1969, she was united in marriage to Michael Finken in Norfolk, Virginia. Gabriel worked for many years as a fabric cutter at Lincoln Textiles in Easton, Pennsylvania. In October of 2008, Gabriel and Mike moved to Oskaloosa. Gabriel took C.N.A. training. Upon completing her schooling, she started working for Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab. She worked as a C.N.A. there until ill health forced her retirement in March of 2013.
Her family includes her husband of nearly 45 years, Michael Finken, Sr. of Oskaloosa; three sons: Glen Finken of Bradenton, Florida; Michael Finken Jr. of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; and Damian (& Danielle) Finken of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; nine grandchildren; a great granddaughter; a sister: Mary Louise (& Rene) Schelling of Rummingen, Germany; two sisters-in-law: Diana Reddy and Dorothy (& Dominic) Romano all of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
As was Gabriel’s wish her body has been cremated and no services are planned. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
