The Oskaloosa High School Dance Dynamix team will soon be ending their most successful season in school history.

The team began preparing for the season last June, with conditioning and technique training. After learning their three state competition routines at the end of the summer, the real work began with constant drilling and “cleaning” of the routines. Throughout the fall they also performed as half time entertainment at home football games.

It was decided at the beginning of the school year that for the first time in school history the team would also take a coed dance to State Dance and Drill. Each girl was required to choose a male partner and extra practices were scheduled. On December 5-6 Dance Dynamix went to the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Competition at Wells Fargo Arena and Hy-Vee Hall in Des Moines.

Iowa is home to the largest state dance and drill competition in the nation.

Dance Dynamix came home with first place in Jazz, Lyrical, and Coed and second place in Pom. Because of these outstanding accomplishments, Dance Dynamix has been invited to perform their Pom routine at half time of a game at the Girls State Basketball tournament on March 4. Dance Dynamix also had five girls selected to be part of the All-Iowa dance team, performing at the half time of the 3A Championship game during the girls state basketball tournament. The girls selected to represent Oskaloosa were Kylie Krier, Payten VanWaardhuizen, Sarah Clark, Daphni Yarkosky and Mary Yarkosky.

In January, ten members of the team traveled to Dallas, Texas to perform at the Cotton Bowl in Cowboy Stadium. Participants rehearsed for two days with dancers from all over the nation and performed at half time of the game. This season the team was coached by Chris Yarkosky, assistant coaches were Katie Carriker, Amy Krier, and Laura Carriker. The varsity/competition team members were Patyen VanWaardhuizen(captain), Kylie Krier(captain), Sarah Clark(captain), Kaitlyn Pearson, Bailey Engelhardt, Daphni Yarkosky, Mary Yarkosky and Danielle Schooley; performance team members were Aishya Seemann, Kylee Braden, Aundrea Whitlatch-Hiemstra and Sydney Gatton. Coed team members were Zach Mateer, Mason Wisse, Davide Alessi, Nick Watters, Dylan Tuttle, Ethan Huyser, Adam Carriker, Jacob Janous, Hunter Simmons, Stephen Shannon, Andy Ruiz and Kitario Hildenbrand.

Dance Dynamix will end their season with a Spring Show on Friday,February 28 at 7pm,in the large gym at the Oskaloosa High School. Area dance teams have also been invited to perform.

The cost of admission to the event is $5 for adults, $3 for students.

The community is invited to come out to enjoy a night of dance and congratulate Dance Dynamix on an outstanding season.
