Central’s Page slides to No. 6 in wrestling poll
PELLA—Central College junior Daniel Page (Tumwater, Wash.) slid to the No. 6 slot at 125 pounds in the fourth National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III rankings of the season despite an undefeated stretch since the previous poll.
Page received a forfeit at 133 pounds in a 35-15 dual win over St. Olaf (Minn.) Thursday and won the 125-pound title at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invitational Dec. 7 en route to a runner-up team finish. He owns a 14-2 overall mark with five falls, one tech fall, three major decisions and four decisions and is 4-0 in duals through one month of competition.
An NCAA Division III tournament qualifier last season, Page opened the season ranked No. 5 and was the lone Iowa Conference wrestler ranked at 125 pounds, but sits No. 6 after Wartburg’s Gilberto Camacho leapfrogged to the top stop despite being unranked in the first three polls.
Three Iowa Conference schools are ranked. Defending champion Wartburg remains the top-ranked team and has an individually-ranked wrestler at every weight. Coe climbed one spot to No. 7, while Luther dropped nine spots to No. 12 following a 22-15 loss at Wis.-La Crosse. Loras—previously ranked No. 24—dropped out of the rankings.
The Dutch (2-2 overall) return to action Saturday at the Gulf Coast Duals in Fort Myers, Fla.
