Mildred Halverson, 97, of Oskaloosa died Sunday morning, December 15, 2013, at her home in Oskaloosa.

Mildred E. Halverson, daughter of Ben and Minnie (Quam) Monson, was born June 19, 1916, in Rake, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Mildred was a 1935 graduate of Rake High School. October 31, 1936, she married Gale F. Halverson. Over the years, they lived in Thompson, LuVerne and Sioux Rapids, Iowa before coming to Oskaloosa.

Mildred was a life-long member of the Lutheran faith and has been a member of St. John Lutheran Church since 1959. She was a home-maker and enjoyed baking, her craft club and guild work at her church.

She is survived by her three sons: Gary and Janet Halverson of Oskaloosa, Charles and Rose Halverson of Godfrey, IL, and Steve and Phyllis Halverson of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren: Todd Halverson of Oskaloosa, Ann (Jim) Shawn of Clive, IA, Sheri (Dennis) Hoskins of St. Louise, MO, and Kent Halverson of Pleasant Hill, IA; four great-grandchildren: Emily and Sam Strawn and Caleb and Kelsey Hoskins; a niece, Linda Moeller of Ankeny, IA; several more nieces and nephews by marriage; three step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, a son James, two brothers: Maynard and Orville Monson; and a sister Lila Gill.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at St. John Lutheran Church near Oskaloosa with Pastor Sam Beltz officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa; the family will be present from 5-7 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church.
