Key Club of Oskaloosa is celebrating its first year of participation in Key Club International Week. The new group of high school students is part of the Kiwanis International family of clubs and is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Oskaloosa Public Library is a co-sponsor of Key Club locally.

Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt has proclaimed November 17-23 to be officially recognized as Key Club Week in Oskaloosa. This designation will provide opportunities for the community to learn about Key Club and its core values of character building, caring, inclusiveness and leadership.

During this week, Key Club of Oskaloosa will be involved in community service ranging from cleaning up a section of the recreation trail to visiting patients in a local residential care center. The group will also be sharing information about Key Club as it extends an invitation to other students to participate.

Key Cub International is the world’s largest high school service organization, with more than 250,000 student members in more than 5,000 clubs. Its success has been attributed to the fact that students learn leadership through the experience of working together toward a common goal. Mentors from Kiwanis and other sponsors provide support as students learn how to create and carry out plans to benefit their community.

Students ages 14 to 18 are invited to join in the spirit of service by participating with the Key Club of Oskaloosa during Key Club Week. Oskaloosa Key Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Oskaloosa and Sunrise Kiwanis of Oskaloosa as well as the public library. For more information, visit www.keyclub.org or call 641-672-2859.
