City Manager to hold regional airport meetings

At the Oskaloosa City Council meeting this evening, city manager Michael Schrock informed the council that he will be holding a couple of public meetings regarding the possibility of a regional airport. Schrock said that the purpose of these meetings are to update the community on the possibility of partnering with the city of Pella and building a regional airport in the Highway 63 corridor. Schrock went on to say that the public will be invited to these meetings and are also invited to give input on the proposed airport. The meetings will be at 6 pm this Tuesday and Thursday on the 3rd floor of the Oskaloosa Public Library. Schrock said that the meetings will last anywhere between one and two hours depending on the amount of public input received.  In other news, the city council:

  • Voted to schedule public hearings for the sale and vacation of an east-west public alley adjacent to 1201 and 1211 3rd Ave East
  • Considered approval of a resolution levying assessment against private home owners for lawn mowing violations.
  • Approved the request from the Relay for Life of Mahaska County Committee for 2011 relay for life event
  • Received a request from MCRF Executive Director Sherry Vavra

The next meeting of the city council will be at an earlier scheduled time because of a board of supervisor’s public hearing. The meeting will be on December 6th at 5:15 pm in the City Council chambers.
