Lamoni–The Statesmen volleyball team went 1-1 in its final weekend action of the year at the Graceland Triangular Friday.

William Penn (15-28) first defeated AIB 3-1 (19-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-12), but then fell to host Graceland 3-1 (18-25, 11-25, 25-21, 10-25).

The Statesmen battled well, considering they were without the services of starting setter Dayna Sammons (Jr., Menomonee Falls, Wis., Software Engineering) for the entire night and starting middle hitter Jeanette Cunningham (Sr., Mt. Orab, Ohio, Elementary Education) for nearly the whole Graceland match.

Kylie Giger (So., Elkhart, Ind., Exercise Science) paced the navy and gold against AIB with ten kills, while Shawni Wills (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Biology) added six winners. Both players tallied three blocks in the win.

Leyra Jusino (So., Bayamon, P.R., General Biology) managed 30 assists and Danielle Breeher (So., St. Louis, Mo., Undecided) posted 18 digs.

Kristal Campos (Jr., Lancaster, Calif., Sociology) was the offensive leader versus Graceland with 11 points. Alanna Connors (Sr., Libertyville, Ill., Biology) contributed seven kills, while Jusino was strong in two areas with 27 assists and 11 digs.

Ana Gutch (Jr., Eddyville, Iowa, Secondary Education) recorded two block assists in the setback.

Next: William Penn returns home Wednesday to host Mount Mercy in Midwest Collegiate Conference action at 7:30 p.m. The season finale will also serve as Senior Night.
