Beo T. Hoang, 89, of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday evening, October 29, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Beo Thi Hoang, the daughter of Kouang Van Feng and Me Thi Pheng, was born, July 9, 1924, in Sonla, Vietnam. She married Pe Van Hoang in June 1953 in Vietnam and then soon afterwards the family was forced to move to Laos because of prevailing war. In 1979 they escaped from Laos to Thailand. They were able to come to the United States in 1980 and eventually settled in Oskaloosa. Beo was never able to have a formal education, but after coming to Oskaloosa she eagerly learned the English language from tutors from the First Christian Church and the Central United Methodist Church. She loved reading, writing and copying the English and Laotian languages.
Beo’s family includes two sons: Pu and his family of Sonla, Vietnam and Keo Hoang of St. Petersburg, FL; two daughters: Koi and her family of Sonla, Vietnam and Phauh (Bouangeun) Xayakoummane of Oskaloosa; her grandchildren: Vilaisak (Haikham) Xayakoummane of Oskaloosa and their son Isaak, Anoulak Xayakoummane of Oskaloosa, Latsany (Phongsanh) Bouavong of Springfield, IL and their children Mason and McKenzie Bouavong, Sauksavanh Ning Xayakoummane of Oskaloosa, and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Vietnam. She is also survived by a sister Nho Tong of Grenoble, France.
In addition to her parents, Beo was preceded in death by her husband and many siblings.
A funeral service for Beo will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday afternoon, November 2nd at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
Cremation will follow the service.
A private burial of her ashes will be in Old White Cemetery at a later time.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Friday at the funeral chapel; the family will greet visitors from 5-7 p.m.
