Karolyn “Kate” Schrader, 82, of Ollie died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at the Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.
Kate was born Monday, September 28, 1931 in Ollie, Iowa the daughter of Bret and Kit Davis. On October 27, 1955, Kate was united in marriage to Harold G. Schrader in Sigourney.
Kate lived in Ollie on the same block all of her life. She worked for a time at Farm Bureau Insurance in Fairfield and sold Avon in the Ollie town and country area for nearly 20 years. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Bub Hoskins in Richland and at Deitrich Grocery Store in Ollie. Her most recent contribution to the community was 25 years of writing the Ollie News for the Richland Clarion Plainsman Newspaper. Her family and friends were her life line that sustained her through 13 years of dialysis.
Kate enjoyed listening to Friday night football games on the radio that her son Randy coached. She also enjoyed visiting at Miss Kitty’s Barber Shop and her Sunday morning friends; Garry and Larry. Kate always left the porch light on for you and everyone was always welcome at her home.
Her family includes husband: Harold Schrader of Ollie; two sons: Randy (Denise) Schrader of Cherry Valley, Illinois and Scott Schrader of Ollie; a daughter: Kitty (& George) Snakenberg of Ollie; a brother: Junior (& Carol) Davis of Fairfield; 4 grandchildren: Memorea of West Des Moines, Mike of Cherry Valley, Brandin (& Sarah) of Fairfield, and Schuyler (& Angela) of Keota; 5 great grandchildren: Jacob, Jonah, Wyatt, Paisley, and Maverick.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Bill and Francis Davis; three sisters: Fern Darby, Betty Reynolds, and Jean Vest; and a granddaughter: Whitney Snakenberg.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 10 A.M. at the Prairie View United Methodist Church in Ollie with Pastor Dave Peterson officiating.
Visitation will be held at the Fremont Funeral Chapel Tuesday, October 22, 2013 after 1 P.M. and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Tuesday from 5:30- 7:30 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
As was her wish, Kate’s body has been cremated and no burial is planned at this time.
Memorials may be made to the Southeastern Renal Dialysis Center or sent to the family.
