Landgrebe Paces Indian Win With Five Touchdowns

Oskaloosa's Andrew Landgrebe racked up 5 TD's in the first half Friday night.

Oskaloosa’s Andrew Landgrebe racked up 5 TD’s in the first half Friday night.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – “Well that was a much needed win,” Oskaloosa Head Football Coach Mike Sterner said on his way to the locker room, as his team chalked up its first of the season.

“Our kids have been doing great for quite awhile,” Sterner added. “And I’m really proud of them for that. When we focus on being our best, it doesn’t matter what the scoreboard says. Our kids just continue to come out and play hard.”

Sterner has been consistent in his talk about what the scoreboard says at the end of the game. After the loss last week to Grinnell, Sterner made similar remarks.

“When bad things happen, we bounce back. Our kids respond,” Sterner said of the teams reaction to adversity.

Oskaloosa struck first on an Andrew Landgrebe carry from 1 yard out with 8:15 on the clock in the first quarter. The PAT run by Nate Van Veldhuizen came up short. Oskaloosa lead 6-0 over Carlisle.

Landgrebe sprinted into the end-zone with 4:21 on the clock in the first quarter to put Oskaloosa up 12-0. The PAT run was no good.

To start off the second quarter, Landgrebe once again did the 1 yard dash into the end-zone for his third score of the night. Nick Waters boots it through the uprights and Oskaloosa is up 19-0 over Carlisle. 11:54 is left on the clock in the 2nd quarter.

Carlisle’s Kichanh McMullen rushes 16 years with 9:03 on the clock in the 2nd quarter. Brandley Hydorn kicks the PAT and it’s now 19-7 in Oskaloosa’s favor.

Landgrebe dashed 70 yards with 6:27 on the clock for his fourth TD of the night. The Nick Waters PAT kick was good and Oskaloosa was ahead 26-7.

It only took the first half of the game for Landgrebe to collect 5 TD’s, as his final run of the night was once again a 1 yard dash into the end-zone. The PAT kick by Waters was good, and with 2:52 remaining in the half, Oskaloosa was up 33-7.

Carlisle pulls off a Hail Mary pass to end the half when Jordan Pierce connects on a 32 yard TD pass to Noah Smith. The PAT by Hydorn was good and the score was 33-14 to end the half.

Carlisle’s Tyrell Erb made the 9 yard run into the end-zone, with Hydorn’s PAT kick good. Oskaloosa leads 33-21 with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter.

Nate Van Veldhuizen smashed his way into the end-zone from 3 yards out for Oskaloosa with just 1:36 remaining on the clock in the third quarter. Waters PAT kick is good and Oskaloosa is now up 40-21.

Carlisle’s McMullen collects his second TD of the night on a 11 yard run with 7:52 remaining in the contest. Hydorn was denied a perfect night when Ryder Curtis blocked the PAT kick and the final score was set at 40-27. Oskaloosa claims its first win of the season.
