Oskaloosa, Iowa | Age 101
Ted passed away at the home of his daughter in Omaha, NE on August 24, 2013, with his family by his side.
Ted, son of Frank and Eva (Scharff) Voss was born July 27, 1912 at the home of his parents in rural Eddyville, Iowa. He was the youngest of 8 children. He married Margret Morris of Eddyville on November 9, 1935. He grew up farming and hauled coal from the Atlas Coal Co. and Blackford Coal Co. and did carpenter work in his later years.
Besides the love of his family, Ted enjoyed raising cattle on his acreage south of Oskaloosa, fishing, a game of pool (snooker) and a good book. Louis L’amour books were a favorite as well as a good detective story. Well into his nineties you could find him at the Oskaloosa Public Library looking for a title he hadn’t already read.
His family includes two daughters: JoAnn (Larry) Simoens of Omaha, NE and Annette (Vince) Sanders of Ankeny, IA; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Margret of 54 years, Ted was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lynda Sanders.
A private family graveside memorial service will be held at Forest Cemetery. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling local arrangements.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
