WPU Linksters Sixth by MCC Coaches
Oskaloosa–A large and talented, but untested group of newcomers will be key as the William Penn men’s golf team seeks to prove itself as a force in the league as the 2013-2014 Midwest Collegiate Conference men’s golf coaches’ poll was released today.
The Statesmen were chosen sixth in the seven-team league standings with 14 points. Four-time defending champion Grand View was a unanimous pick to keep the crown with 49 points and all seven first-place votes.
AIB edged Mount Mercy 39-36 for second place, while St. Ambrose was fourth with 28 points.
Viterbo (21) was fifth and Clarke rounded out the order with nine points.
“We know we have a hole to dig out from the past, but we have a great group of guys this year with a lot of talent who are going to work hard,” Head Coach Steve Tucker said. “We feel we are much better than sixth in the conference; now we just have to prove it.”
William Penn begins the fall by going to Marion to compete in the Mount Mercy Cropper Classic at Hunters Ridge Golf Course on September 7-8.
