Tom Doud, 51, of Oskaloosa passed away unexpectedly, Thursday evening, August 1, 2013, at his home in Oskaloosa.
Thomas Eugene Doud, son of Harold Jackson and Phyllis Louise (Mason) Doud, was born May 18, 1962, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1980 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. He was then employed as a machinist for 15 years with Clow Valve Company. He then took a job as a machinist at Vermeer Manufacturing where he worked until July 2011, when his health required an early retirement. Tom married Cindy Irene Pettyjohn, June 21, 1997, in Bussey, Iowa.
Tom’s passion was history; he collected movies, particularly historic movies. He enjoyed antiquing and collecting historic artifacts. Tom was a member of the Coin Collection Club and the American Legion. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog, a Westie named Jaxx.
His family includes his wife of 16 years, Cindy of Oskaloosa; a son, C.J. Sytsma of Ottumwa; two daughters: Krystal Doud of Oskaloosa and Angela Doud of New Sharon; five grandchildren: Taylor, Austin, Amy, Kenadi and Emma; his mother, Phyllis Doud and her husband, Carl Vander Linden of Oskaloosa; sisters: Terri Johnston of Columbia, MO and Mary (Jesse) Johnston-Eskew of Harrisburg, MO; a brother, Mark Doud of Stratford, IA; his father-in-law, Leland Pettyjohn of Bussey; sisters-in-law: Deborah (Tim) Gray of Rochelle, IL and Diana Renay Fields of Victorville, CA; a brother-in-law, Max (Melissa) Pettyjohn of Oskaloosa and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Harold “Jumbo” Doud, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Diana Pettyjohn.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 5, 2013, at Friends Cemetery, on North E ST, west of William Penn University in Oskaloosa. Arrangements are entrusted to Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel.
