Carlson Earns Reins of Volleyball Program
Oskaloosa–William Penn University Athletics Director Greg Hafner has announced the hiring of Jennifer Carlson as Head Volleyball Coach.
Carlson comes to William Penn after serving as assistant coach at her alma mater Adrian College, an NCAA Division III institution in Adrian, Mich., for the past year. The Bulldogs were 14-16 in the 2012 campaign, including a 7-9 record in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
As the top assistant at Adrian, Carlson was responsible for scouting, team travel plans, meals, and equipment. She was also the associate in charge of recruiting and assisted in budget management.
“We are excited to have Coach Carlson on our staff,” Hafner said. “She will bring energy and enthusiasm to our volleyball program.”
Carlson moved to her alma mater from Siena Heights University (Mich.) where she held the role of top assistant during the 2011 campaign. The Saints finished 15-16 that fall (3-6 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference). She was also the program’s graduate assistant from 2009-2011, holding the title of head JV coach in 2009.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to take over an already successful program and bring a new vision and coaching style,” Carlson said. “I am excited to meet the girls and see where we can go with this program.”
Carlson has other volleyball coaching experience at the youth level at Premier Volleyball Academy (Ohio) (2010-2011) and Siena Volleyball Academy (2011-2012). She has coached softball as well, doing so at Adrian HS (2008-2010) and Tecumseh HS (2006-2007).
A successful collegiate player, Carlson was a three-time all-conference performer at Adrian, including a first-team nod in 2008. She currently ranks third on the career kills list. Carlson also played basketball, earning honorable-mention laurels in 2006.
Carlson received a degree in Interior Design in 2009 and earned her Master’s of Arts in Leadership (Organizational Leadership concentration) from Siena Heights in 2011.
