Loving Mother and Grandmother
Linda De Bruin, 67, of Oskaloosa passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Monday evening, June 17, 2013, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House in Oskaloosa after a courageous battle with cancer since 2001.
Linda K. De Bruin, daughter of Jacob and Margaret (Roozeboom) De Ronde, was born, November 4, 1945, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Linda was a 1963 graduate of the Pella Christian High School. February 18, 1964, she married Wayne De Bruin at the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. They made their home on a farm NW of Oskaloosa, where they worked together and raised their four children. They moved into Oskaloosa in 2003. Linda served as a teacher’s aid at Jack and Jill Preschool and in 1999 began working at Jaarsma’s Bakery, where she worked until 2008.
Linda’s faith and her relationship with her Savior were at the heart of who Linda was. She was a long time member of the First Christian Reformed Church, where she participated in Bible studies, taught Sunday school and helped with Coffee Break and Story Hour. She also participated in C.R.W.R.C. work trips to Florida and Texas to help with disaster relief. In her rural neighborhood she was a member of the ladies’ Friendly Circle Club. Linda enjoyed nature and spending time outdoors, taking care of her flowers, yard work, watching birds and identifying them were all things she loved doing. Linda’s appearance was one of a sweet gentle soul – and she was that; yet she had a side that yearned for adventure and fun. Linda was an avid reader and she also enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes and NASCAR on T.V., rarely missing a race. She also loved riding the four-wheeler on the farm and along the river and enjoyed riding her golf cart on the bike trail. Linda enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and other vacations with family and friends. She also loved to escape Iowa in the winter to enjoy a cruise and the Florida climate. Linda’s bond with her children and grandchildren was something she cherished, she shared with them the things she loved and when possible gave them driving lessons.
Linda’s family includes her husband of 49 years, Wayne of Oskaloosa; her children, their spouses, grandchildren and (great-grandchildren): Jerry and Jill De Bruin of Oskaloosa and their children: Jacob & Kristen (Ayden and Bently), Ben & Courtney, Andrew, and Linae; Sandra and Michael Rozendaal of Sully and their children: Derek (Amelia), Breianne, Daren and Lucas; and Douglas and Robbyn De Bruin of Oskaloosa and their children: Anna, Trenton and Lindsay; her sisters and brothers-in-law: Faye and Jim Drost and Carolyn and Lee DeGroot; a brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Wanda De Ronde; her mother-in-law, Anna De Bruin; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Donald and Patricia DeBruin, all of Oskaloosa; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Janice and Frank Fronek of Orland Park, Illinois.
