Frederick L. Davis, 85, of Oskaloosa died Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.
Fred was born Friday, July 22, 1927 in New Sharon, Iowa the son of Thomas and Ethel Hyatt Davis. Following school, Fred joined the Coast Guard. While in the Coast Guard he was united in marriage to Genevie Nance on June 19, 1945 in Key West, Florida and she died February 27, 2009. Fred worked on the highway paving gang and ran the junk yard south of Oskaloosa and later the city landfill for several years. Lastly, Fred worked for Roth Construction for 20 years until ill health forced his retirement in 1985. He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, clocks, watches, and wall phones. He also enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, going to auctions, and telling stories.
His family includes his two sons: Jimmy Davis of San Marcos, California and Larry (& Karen) Davis of Glenwood, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and 1 great great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a granddaughter: Veralynn Davis; two daughters-in-law: Chris Davis and Evelyn Davis; and a sister: Dorothy Howard.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 10 A.M. at the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Charlie McMillan officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Visitation will begin Monday after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Monday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Serenity House or to Mahaska Health Partnership.
