Norman Phillip Crow, 82, of Hedrick died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Iowa City V.A. Health Care Center in Iowa City.
Norman was born Monday, March 23, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Everett and Delma Collins Crow. He attended school in Ottumwa. Following school, Norman worked in several grocery stores until joining the Navy. On October 10, 1951, Norman was united in marriage to Betty Penniston at the Nazarene Church in Ottumwa. He worked as the meat department manager at several grocery stores including Easter’s Super Value and Benner’s following his discharge. He later owned and operated a laundromat, a truck garden, and an antique store and also was the mayor of Hedrick for a time. He was a member of the Hedrick American Legion Post #83.
His family includes his wife: Betty Crow of Hedrick; two sons: Randy (& Connie) Crow and Michael (& Tina) Crow both of Hedrick; a daughter: Annette (& Jim) McKim of Herdick; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a brother: Gary (& Jackie) Crow of Florida; and a sister: Janice (& Ralph) Van Zante of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Danny Crow; and a niece: Pam Crow.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 7, 2013 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with Reverend Jim Eschenbrenner officiating.
Burial will be in the Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Arendt Bowlin Stubbs Post #83 of Hedrick.
Visitation will begin Thursday after 11:00 A.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Thursday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Heartland Humane Society in Ottumwa.
