Marie Simmons, 75, of Oskaloosa, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born April 19, 1938, at Bussey, Iowa the daughter of William M. and Ethel A. Gray Hols. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1956. Marie worked various places throughout her life including: the old Putt’s Drive-In, the old Continental Overall Factory, the Moose, the Elks, Hy-Vee, the old Big Bear, and Reames Foods in Pella. She was a member of the Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed attending the O.K. Bunch at the First Assembly of God Church, bowling and collecting angels.
Her family includes her two children, Tim Simmons of Ottumwa and Amy Nelson of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren, Dustin Hampton, Candice Patterson-Nelson, David Green, Stephen Simmons, Zach Hill, John Whitlatch and Angel Mullin; five great grandchildren; a brother, Floyd (& Marcella) Hols of Tracy; and a sister, Margaret Silvers of Oskaloosa.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cindy Simmons; a sister, Eva Hols; and two brothers, Francis “Sunny” Hols and Forest “Bud” Hols.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday morning after 10 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
