Sterner Named New Head Football Coach After Barker Withdraws

Coach Jeff Barker of Winterset has withdrawn his name from becoming the head football coach at Oskaloosa High School due to personal reasons.

Oskaloosa Community School District is announcing the hiring of Mike Sterner as the new head football coach pending school board approval.

Coach Sterner is a graduate of Oskaloosa High School and William Penn University where he participated in football.

Mike Sterner has served as assistant football coach at Oskaloosa High School for 17 years. He has served as defensive and special teams coordinator and was named the Iowa Assistant Coach of the year in Class 3A in 2008. Coach Sterner was named the Assistant Head Coach in 2012 under Coach Mark Schlib.

Coach Sterner is married to Molly and they have four children, Kate, Sara, Joe and Andrew. Mr. Sterner teaches at Oskaloosa Middle School as a social studies teacher.
