Vardena Belle Pontello, 92, of Oskaloosa died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa.

Vardena was born March 8, 1921, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert and Vera Bell Hammond Boystun Wilder. On September 8, 1943, she was united in marriage to Samuel J. Pontello at Los Angles, California, they later separated. In 1943, Vardena moved to Los Angles and worked as a film inspector and audience planner. In 1986, she retired and moved to Iowa to enjoy her retirement years. She attended the First Assembly of God and the New Hope Free Methodist Churches in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed attending the O.K. Bunch activities. Vardena also enjoyed spending time with her close friend and neighbor Kay Brown.

She is survived by her close friend, Kay Brown; and friends, Dennis and Harold whom she moved to Iowa with; and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

As was her wish her body has been donated to the University Of Iowa Carver College of Medicine.
