Small Airplane Crashes In Rural Mahaska County
Oskaloosa, Iowa – A small single engine aircraft crashed around noon on Saturday, just south of Beacon, Iowa. The crash happened just 100 yards north of the gravel road 295th Street in the 1700 block. The occupants were able to exit the plane and walk to a nearby farmhouse. There, the local farmer transported the passengers to town for treatment at the local emergency room.
The aircraft, described as a Piper PA-28-161 fixed single wing aircraft, is registered to an owner out of Kalona, Iowa. Local witnesses said it appeared that the engine died before the crash.
There were three people in the plane, with at least one injured, and no fatalities.
The Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office along with the FAA and the NTSB are investigating the accident.
