James “Jim” Tylkowski, 74, of Oskaloosa, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Jim was born February 19, 1939, in Farewell, Nebraska, the son of Maximillion and Anna Kizlor Tylkowski. He graduated from the Farewell Nebraska High School with the class of 1956. He entered the United States Army in 1958, and served six years as a Morse Code Interceptor. On May 4, 1968, he was united in marriage to Donna Lenox at Cedar Rapids. Jim started his career in sales working for; IBM, Cudhay, Armour and Co, and lastly for Davenport Fish. He left sales and went to work as an office manager for Farner Wholesale in Oskaloosa. He retired from there in 1999. In retirement Jim worked part time for Walmart and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Oskaloosa American Legion. He enjoyed coffee time with his buddies at Subway, bowling, hunting, fishing and camping. Jim delighted in his dogs- Rocky, Curley and Sadie; and his cat, Sparky. In later years Jim enjoyed playing on the computer.
His family includes his wife of over 45 years, Donna Tylkowski of Oskaloosa; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry (& Donna) Lenox of Oskaloosa, Terry (& Ann) Lenox of Oskaloosa, Rodney (& Sheryl) Playle of New Sharon, Barbara Johnston of Oskaloosa, and Karen Hostetler of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jeffry Belger officiating.
As was Jim’s wish his body has been cremated and no visitation is planned.
Inurnment will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Memorials may be made to the Stephen Memorial Animal Shelter.
