“Ted” passed away Wednesday evening, May 1, 2013, at the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 29 days.
Homer Theodore Lytle, son of Homer William Lytle and Natalia L. Meier, was born August 2, 1931, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was a 1949 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and then attended Iowa State University. He served in the Marine Corps from 1951 to 1956. Ted married Nancy Springer and to that union a son, Tim, was born. They later divorced and Ted married Lynn Goss. Ted was employed as a district manager for Allis Chalmers in the Minneapolis area for many years. He later moved to Columbus, Ohio, where he opened three Mailboxes Etc. stores, which he owned and operated and eventually sold. In 2011, Ted returned to the Oskaloosa area to be closer to his sister. Ted was a member of the Eagle’s Lodge, the American Legion and the V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing and boating and spending time at his home in the Ozarks.
Ted’s family includes his son, Tim Lytle of Minneapolis, Minnesota; a grandson, Darian Lytle; a sister, Lynn (Jerry) Else of Oskaloosa, a niece, Sue Else of Savannah, Georgia and three nephews: John Else, Brett (Diane) Else and Todd Else, all of Oskaloosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Lynn.
As was his wish, his body has been cremated and private burial of his ashes will be held at Madison Center Cemetery. Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.
