Taylor Places Second in MCC Decathlon, Teams Win Several Events at Home Relays

Oskaloosa–The William Penn track and field team performed well in the inaugural Statesmen Relays, while one athlete also finished high on the charts at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships Friday and Saturday.
Sam Taylor (So., Eddyville, Iowa, Industrial Technology) was the busiest member of the navy and gold, taking second in the ten-event decathlon competition. The sophomore scored 5,459 points, including a high of 736 points in the 100-meter dash (11.58 seconds). He also managed 732 points with a 110-meter hurdles time of 16.01 seconds.
Taylor scored over 600 points in two other events as well.
Gabriel Green (Sr., Anniston, Ala., Business Management) was one of five individual champions on the men’s side, taking the gold in the 100-meter dash at 10.81 seconds.
Long jumper Jalen Wilson (So., Desoto, Texas, Undecided) hit a distance of 22-10.75, while triple jumper Frederick Pannell (Fr., Trenton, Mo.) eclipsed the 41-11.25 mark.
A pair of throwers also led their fields as Kalob Gist (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management) won the shot put at 45-1, while Colt Brumbaugh (Jr., Keswick, Iowa, Industrial Technology) was best in the javelin at 130-5.
The WPU men’s 4×800-meter relay team (8:14.70) and 1,600-meter sprint medley (3:35.33) were first as well, while nine other top-three finishes were also secured.
Meaghan Foster (Fr., Centerville, Iowa, Undecided) was William Penn’s only two-time winner on either team, topping the shot put (41-8) and discus (126-3).
Jazmine Epps (Fr., Princeton, Texas) earned the 100-meter dash crown at 13.00 seconds, while Audre Harris (Sr., Junction City, Kan., Undecided) won the 100-meter hurdles at 17.05 seconds. The high jump champion was Alora Simmons (Fr., Newton, Iowa, Elementary Education) with a height of 5-1.
The WPU women matched the men with a sprint medley title at 4:21.64. The navy and gold produced 13 other top-three finishers on the women’s side.
Next: William Penn travels to Indianola Thursday and Friday to compete in the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson.
