GRINNELL MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER JACK TAYLOR ’15 RECOGNIZED BY IOWA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
DES MOINES, Iowa – Grinnell College men’s basketball player Jack Taylor ’15, who made international headlines last November with his record-breaking scoring feat, was recognized Thursday by the Iowa House of Representatives at the Iowa State Capitol.
State Rep. and Grinnell alumnus Chris Hall ’07 of Sioux City, and State Rep. David Maxwell, who represents Grinnell, introduced and passed a resolution honoring Taylor for his record of most points in a single game.
The resolution was read into official record in the Iowa legislature.
Taylor scored an NCAA-record 138 points on Nov. 20, 2012, in a win over Faith Baptist Bible College.

A Resolution honoring the Grinnell College Men’s 1 Basketball Team. 2 WHEREAS, for more than a century, Grinnell College 3 has been known as an outstanding institution of 4 academic achievement and intellectual prowess; and 5 WHEREAS, Grinnell may now claim a sports legend as 6 well, as sophomore point guard Jack Taylor scored 138 7 points in a November 20, 2012, basketball game; and 8 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor finished that game making 52 9 of 108 shots from the floor, including 27 of 71 from 10 three-point range; and 11 WHEREAS, Mr. Taylor’s effort shattered collegiate 12 basketball’s NCAA single-game scoring record set in 13 1954; NOW THEREFORE, 14 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 15 the House of Representatives congratulates Jack Taylor, 16 the members of the Grinnell College Men’s Basketball 17 Team, and Head Coach David Arseneault for a remarkable 18 athletic performance.
