FFA Parent Member Banquet

The Oskaloosa FFA chapter hosted their 76th Annual Parent Member Banquet on Friday, March 22, 2013 in the high school cafeteria. There were 140 parents, members and guests in attendance. The banquet’s purpose was to recognize special members, members accomplishments and to recognize our graduating seniors.
The Blue and Gold award is an award given to few individuals who have contributed to the success of the FFA chapter. Our award winner was Ms. Julie Miller. She supported our chapter greatly by providing expertise, use of her equipment and facilities, and helping whenever she could.
The Honorary Member this year was Mr. Rick McDanel. Rick has worked at the school for 17 years. We selected Rick as our candidate because of his outstanding support of our chapter and his willingness to help.
The Star Greenhand Award is awarded to the outstanding first year member in the areas of scholarship, participation in chapter activities and their SAE projects they are involved in. Our award winner was Kylee Silliman.
Some of the members showed an outstanding grade point average of 3.25 or higher. These members were; Ben kutz, Madison McQueen, Kylee Silliman, Nicole Strasser, Bobbi Fogle, Alexis Fuller, Austin Dykstra, Elizabeth Christy, Brittany McQueen, Kelsie Tomlin, Joe VerSteegh, Kaila Wheeldon, Shania Cubit and Samuel Nunnikhoven.
Chapter members gained scholarship recognition for maintaining a grade point average of 3.25 or higher. These members were Freshamn Ben Kutz, Madison McQueen, Kylee Silliman, Nicole Strasser. Sophomres Bobbi Fogle and Alexis Fuller Juniors Austin Dykstra, Elizabeth Christy, Brittany McQueen, Kelsie Tomlin, Joe VerSteegh, and Kaila Wheeldon, Seniors Shania Cubit and Samuel Nunnikhoven.
Joe VerSteegh and Dalton Kraber presented contest results from sub-district and district contest. Madison McQueen received a gold rating and advanced to district contest. Bobbi Fogle, Jordan Bemis, Dalton Kraber, Kelsie Tomlin, Austin Dykstra and Joe VerSteegh received gold rating at sub district and a gold rating at district contest and advances to State competition on April 21, 2013. The Conduct of Meetings team consisting of Kylee Silliman, Alex Grubbs, Ben Kutz, Nicole Strasser, Zachary Randau and Robert Dannels received a silver rating. Brittany McQueen competed in Ag Sales received a gold rating and was alternate for District Contest.
We recognized the members who were awarded a proficiency award. The following have become proficient in a specific area. Madison McQueen in Creed Speaking, Brittany McQueen in fruits and vegetable production, Joseph VerSteegh in placement in diversified livestock and placement in diversified crop, Samuel Nunnikhoven in dairy production, placement in swine production, placement in dairy production, Makayla Scanlon in swine production entrepreneur.
The following students were recognized for their SAE project. Austin Dykstra gave recognition to the graduating seniors through a presentation that featured their school activities, hobbies and future plans. Our graduating seniors were Shania Cubit, Bryan Herr, Samuel Nunnikhoven, and Makayla Scanlon.
The annual workers auction and pie contest and auction was very successful. Twenty seven pies were donated by friends of the FFA and four teams of workers were auctioned. First place pies in the pie contest were made by Sharon Nunnikhoven,cherry, Jodi Wilcox,apple, and Lauren McMahan, cream, Eileen Blom, other variety.
Thanks to all of the members and guests, the Oskaloosa FFA Chapter’s Annual Parent Member banquet was a great night. The Chapter would like to thank everyone who participated in the banquet and made this important night a success!
